The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated veteran journalist and publisher of Newsdiary Online, Mr. Danlami Nmodu, on his election as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).
In a statement issued on Monday, Idris described Nmodu’s election at the recently concluded GOCOP congress in Lagos as “well-deserved,” noting his long-standing record of professionalism and integrity in the journalism profession.
“Mr. Nmodu, with whom I have shared a personal and professional relationship for many years, is a thorough journalist who has proved his mettle in the field and is deserving of such commanding heights,” the Minister said.
Idris also commended the immediate past GOCOP President, Mrs. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews Online, for her outstanding leadership and contribution to the growth of the Guild. He acknowledged her efforts in promoting honour, dignity, and credibility within the association, which now boasts over 100 online publishers.
The Minister urged Nmodu and his new executive committee to uphold unity within GOCOP through inclusive and transparent leadership that promotes collaboration among members.
“As I congratulate Mr. Nmodu, I also urge him to lead an inclusive administration that guarantees the participation of all GOCOP members in achieving the Guild’s collective goals,” Idris stated.
He further encouraged the Guild to remain steadfast against the growing challenge of fake news and misinformation, calling for stronger cooperation between GOCOP and the Ministry in advancing media and information literacy nationwide.
“I trust that Mr. Nmodu, who has built a distinguished career rooted in integrity, accountability, courage, and resilience, will bring these values to bear in fostering responsible journalism and supporting government efforts in media literacy, particularly in the digital space,” the Minister added.
